Description:
This book focuses on the “Practical Physiology”. The book “Practical Physiology” has been structured keeping the requirements of the present day curriculum in mind. It is constructed in a simple manner and includes the basic principles of physiology and its applied aspects. The viva questions and model answers given at the end of each chapter will help the students in preparing for their examination. For ease of use, the book is divided into five main sections. The first section discusses the hematology includes compound microscope, microscopic examination of blood, collection of blood sample, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, packed cell volume (PCV) or hematocrit, estimation of hemoglobin, hemocytometer and red blood cell count, determination of specific gravity of blood, differential count of leukocytes, absolute eosinophil count, reticulocyte count, platelet count, determination of blood group, etc. The second section describes the clinical examination includes general examination, physical examination, determination of arterial blood pressure, examination of the respiratory system, examination of the cardiovascular system, examination of the nervous system, examination of the sensory system, examination of the motor system and examination of cranial nerves. The third section provides the detail discussion on the experimental physiology (amphibian experiments) includes common appliances used in the experimental physiology laboratory, pithing of frog and dissection of muscle nerve preparation, mounting the muscle-nerve preparation, simple muscle twitch, etc. This chapter fourth section describes the biophysics experiments includes cathode ray oscilloscope, electrocardiography, spirometry, stethography, perimetry, etc. Fifth and sixth sections discuss the mammalian (rabbit) experiments and normal values of hematologic values and fluids used in the laboratory. Finally, the last section provides the detailed discussion on the model of practical examination of practical physiology.
